Glimmingehus
The best-preserved medieval castle in the Nordic Region. Started in 1499 by a Danish knight, today Glimmingehus is a living monument.
Archaeological finds suggest that the Danish knight Jens Holgersen Ulfstand lived a comfortable, wealthy life at Glimmingehus in the early 16th century. These finds include Venetian glass and Spanish ceramics. Ulfstand would no doubt have appreciated the fact that the castle still lives on as an important medieval centre.
Here you can learn to shoot with a bow and arrow, and the castle plays host to tournaments, markets, exhibitions, games and fun. The tradition of story telling is kept alive every summer, with the “Strange stories and terrifying tales” event. You can also sample medieval fare at the restaurant.
Glimmingehus has long been popular with those interested in history, and this mysterious medieval castle continues to throw up new questions.
